Tips for a Photogenic Smile

February 25, 2015 By Dr. Steve Mocrae & Associates

It’s time to smile

There is something inherently powerful about smiling. This simple facial expression can lift people out of bad moods and instill a sense of positivity that many of us struggle to maintain on a day-to-day basis. You may be surprised at how effective a truly photogenic smile that captivates audiences and is the trademark of all the big screen actors and actresses can be. Smiles are contagious and should be worn with pride; after all, it does not cost anything to put those pearly whites on display for the world to see. In the age of selfies, the smile is a priceless asset.

A smile that everyone will remember

The first thing to work on is your confidence. Whether you get your confidence through your appearance or from something a little more internal, it’s essential you dig into it to portray your pearly whites. Covering your teeth while you smile promotes a lack of self-confidence, so do your best to show your teeth when taking photos.

If you have an event coming up where you know a lot of photographs will be taken (a friend’s wedding or your birthday, for example), consider getting your teeth professionally whitened. This will naturally increase your confidence and let you feel comfortable in front of the camera. If you’re looking for a more long-term solution to the perfect, photogenic smile, consider investing in braces. While this isn’t always the first thought adults have when thinking about having their picture taken, it can make a big impact on your comfort level when having people, or cameras, look at you. Between Invaslign and traditional braces, adults have options to fix their smile within as little as a year.

No matter how you look in pictures, it’s important to keep in mind that we’re all unique, and that regardless of how misshapen your teeth may seem, a photogenic smile is one that portrays confidence and happiness. At the end of the day, nothing can top healthy oral hygiene. Brush, floss, and use mouthwash twice per day to keep that your smile intact and your mouth free from germs and nasty bacteria.
