When to Take Your Child to the Dentist

June 11, 2014 By Dr. Steve Mocrae & Associates

Timing is everything

This question is very common, and it can be difficult for parents to decide when their child’s first dental visit should be. To help ease your mind, we’ll quickly go over when and why to bring your child to the dentist. It is first important to know why your child is going to the dentist initially, and then you can properly gauge when to bring the child in. The initial visit is mostly about getting kids used to the dentist, by both being in the chair and familiarizing with the dentist.

Of course it is ideal to make sure all of the teeth are growing properly and that their are no problems, but it is this first appointment that is the stepping stone to regular dental visits and developing a worry free process for kids. This is the best way to avoid “dental fear” in later years. It is also a good opportunity for parents to ask questions and be educated on proper dental care for children. The typical age for kids to first see the dentist is one year old. From there it is best to have visits every six months to ensure the teeth are healthy and develop the habit of going to the dentist. So there you have it! Quick and easy information on when to bring your child. If you have any specific questions call or email us and we will be more than happy to answer them.
